About

Who KSTRLWORKS is, where it started, and the values behind the Linux tools we build.

Our Mission

To build software that respects your intelligence, privacy, and independence. Our company runs on solving problems, funded by satisfied customers. Not advertisers, not data brokers and not middlemen. This keeps incentives aligned to just one party, the customer.

But don’t take our word for it, we never want you to. Whatever we ship, your data stays yours and exportable, in standard formats, whenever you want. You can always leave.

Where We Came From

KSTRLWORKS is a US-based software company that’s spent years solving complex technical challenges in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

Our backgrounds span the critical systems that keep society running: from developing tracking infrastructure for the US Navy, from F-35s to Destroyers, to architecting high-frequency trading infrastructure moving millions in daily volume. We’ve secured global investment management firms’ operations, implemented cybersecurity solutions for the Department of Defense, and helped modernize weapon systems that can’t afford a single point of failure.

Some of our projects might even sound like they’re from a different era, like helping Japan finally move off floppy disks in 2024. But that’s exactly why we do what we do. Technology moves fast, but mission-critical systems often get left behind. We bridge that gap.

Working in heavily regulated industries taught us that software isn’t just about features, it’s about reliability, security, and seamless integration when stakes are high. Whether it’s FTC compliance systems or special operations infrastructure, we’ve learned that the best solutions are the ones that just work, even under pressure.

Our Values

Privacy by Default

Your data lives only on your machine. If it ever needs to leave, you’ll know why, we’ll send only what’s necessary, and it’s encrypted in transit and at rest. No telemetry in any of our software, no analytics, no tracking, not because we disabled them, but because we never built them. We don’t know what you’re working on, and we don’t want to.

Freedom to Leave

No lock-in. Export always available, your data stays accessible. We call this our Fear of God clause. It means we stay honest because you can leave anytime. We can only keep you by delivering value, not by making it hard to leave.

Written by Engineers

AI is used for research, internal automation, and helper scripts, but the code in our binaries, libraries, drivers, and services is authored by engineers. Our models are self-hosted where possible, and any external tooling with AI capabilities is evaluated individually. We have a zero-tolerance policy for anything that collects or trains on our data or our customers’. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
